New FREE Pattern -- Crochet Sunflower

This pattern is so fun to make and so cute on hats!  The pattern is a little different than the one on my "Sunflower Pixie" hat (even though they look almost exactly alike)!  So you will want this pattern, too!

There is also a video tutorial!!!

Skill Level:  Advanced Beginner

Size of Finished Sunflower:  Approximately 5 inches across

Materials Needed:

-  Small amount of yarn in brown  (for center of sunflower)  I used “Vanna’s Choice” for this and the yellow.)
-  Small amount of yarn in yellow  (for petals of sunflower)
-  Crochet Hook, Size H/5.00 mm
-  Yarn Needle  (Used for working in loose yarn ends.)

Sunflower:

Center of Sunflower  (Using Brown Yarn)

Round 1:  Using the “Magic Circle”, Ch 1.  Work 12 dc in the circle.  Join with slip stitch to top of first dc.   (12 dc)
Round 2.  Ch 3.  Work 1 dc in same stitch as Ch 3.  Work 2 dc in each stitch around.  (24 dc)
Fasten off yarn and weave in loose ends.

Petals of Sunflower:  (Using Yellow Yarn)

Round 1:  Attach yarn to the dc just to the right of the last slip stitch of the brown yarn.   *Ch 3, skip 1 dc st, sl st into the next stitch*.  Repeat 11 more times.  (This makes the base for 12 petals.)
Round 2:  Sl st in the first Ch 3 space.
In the same space, Ch 2,  work 3 dc, Ch 2, Sl st.  *Then Sl st in the next Ch 3 space.  In the same Ch 3 space, Ch 2, work 3 dc, Ch 2, Sl st*  Repeat from * to * all the way around.  End with a Sl st at the base of the first petal.  This should neatly connect the last petal with the first petal.

Fasten off yarn, leaving a tail of yarn about 20 inches long.  This will be used to sew the flower to the hat.
